Apple iPhone Duo – Apple’s Entry into the World of Foldable Smartphones

Apple fans, take note: here comes a new, bigger pipe for your digital opium.

With the iPhone Duo, Apple is taking a step that many tech enthusiasts have been anticipating for years: the company is launching its first foldable iPhone. While other manufacturers have already released several generations of foldable devices, Apple is not trying to be first. Instead, it aims to combine carefully refined hardware and software into a cohesive product. The result is a smartphone that feels compact when closed and transforms into something close to a small tablet when opened.

The most striking feature of the iPhone Duo is, of course, its foldable display. On the outside, there is a 5.4-inch screen suitable for messages, calls, and everyday tasks. Open the device, and a 7.6-inch display unfolds, providing significantly more room for videos, games, websites, and multiple apps running simultaneously. Both displays feature ProMotion technology, an Always-On mode, and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Particularly noteworthy is the nanotexture finish on the inner display, which is designed to reduce reflections while making the fold crease less noticeable.

Apple also remains true to its familiar design philosophy. The iPhone Duo features a titanium frame and a precision-engineered hinge intended to provide smooth and consistent opening and closing. When folded shut, the device is roughly the size of a small passport. When opened, Apple claims it becomes the thinnest iPhone ever made. While this contributes to an elegant appearance, it also raises a challenge: a foldable smartphone is inherently more complex than a conventional iPhone, and only everyday use over time will reveal how well the hinge and display withstand frequent folding.

Powering the device is Apple’s new A20 Pro processor. It is supported by a dedicated cooling system featuring a custom-designed vapor chamber. Apple also employs a dual-battery architecture, which is intended to provide all-day battery life despite the device’s slim profile. As a result, the iPhone Duo should offer enough performance for demanding games, video editing, and multitasking. Particularly interesting is its integration with iOS 27. Apple has adapted the operating system specifically for the larger foldable display, allowing applications to make better use of the additional screen space. The interface also changes dynamically depending on whether the device is folded or unfolded.

The cameras are another important component of the new iPhone. Apple promises a powerful camera system along with new possibilities made possible by the foldable design. At the same time, it is notable that Apple has not simply transferred every camera feature from its most expensive Pro model. As a result, the iPhone Duo may appeal especially to users who value the new form factor more than having the most advanced camera hardware available. Early impressions from technology journalists reflect both excitement about the design and questions regarding the camera specifications and real-world practicality.

Another interesting aspect is Apple Intelligence. The latest generation of AI features is deeply integrated into iOS 27 and is designed to assist users with photo editing and a variety of everyday tasks.

Combined with the large display, this could make the iPhone Duo more useful as a productivity device than previous iPhones. Support for the Apple Pencil is also planned for a future update, enabling the smartphone to be used for note-taking and sketching.

The biggest point of criticism is likely to be the price. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States for the 256 GB version. This clearly positions the device toward buyers willing to pay a significant premium for the new form factor. In addition, its long-term durability and everyday practicality can only be assessed over time. The iPhone Duo is therefore less of a smartphone for everyone and more of a highly ambitious premium technology product.

Conclusion: The iPhone Duo demonstrates Apple’s vision of a foldable smartphone—not as a completely new way of interacting with technology, but as an extension of the familiar iPhone experience. Its large 7.6-inch display, optimized software, and premium design make it a compelling device. At the same time, the high price and unanswered questions regarding long-term durability remain important considerations. Whether the concept succeeds will ultimately depend on whether users find enough value in the additional screen space to use it regularly. As the first foldable member of the iPhone family, however, the Duo represents a noteworthy step and could mark the beginning of a new product category for Apple.

Warming Farmer’s Stew

A hearty farmer’s stew is exactly the right meal for a cool autumn evening. For four servings, you will need 500 g (1.1 lb) potatoes, 2 carrots, 1 leek, 300 g (10.5 oz) white cabbage or Savoy cabbage, 1 large onion, and, if desired, 150 g (5 oz) diced bacon or smoked sausage.

Begin by sautéing the onion in 1 tablespoon of oil, then briefly fry the bacon as well. Add the diced or sliced vegetables and cook them for a few minutes, allowing them to develop some flavor. Next, pour in 1 liter (about 1 quart) of vegetable or beef stock, add 1 teaspoon of marjoram, and let the stew simmer gently for 25 to 30 minutes, until the potatoes and vegetables are tender.

Season with salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley before serving. Enjoyed with a slice of rustic farmhouse bread, this hearty, warming dish is satisfying and especially comforting on chilly autumn days. 🍂🥣

School Is Back in Session

Teacher: “Who did your homework for you?”
Teacher: “Who did your homework for you?”
Fritz: “How should I know? I had to go to bed early last night.”

---

Phone call: “Dad, it’s Nina’s father. He wants to know when you’ll be finished with my homework. He’d like to copy it afterward.”

---

Teacher to student: “Tell your grandfather to come to school tomorrow.”

Student: “Not my father?”

Teacher: “No, I want to show your grandfather how many mistakes his son made in your homework.”

---

“But you have to go to school!”

“The students don’t like me, the teachers hate me, the janitor can’t stand me, and even the bus driver dislikes me.”

“Pull yourself together. You’re 45 years old and the principal—you have to go to school!”

---

At school, the teacher asks the students what they want to be when they grow up. Answers include pilot, train driver, nurse, shop assistant, hairdresser, and many more.

When little Susie is asked, she replies:

“If I grow up pretty, I’ll become a fashion model. Otherwise, I’ll become a teacher.”

---

Fritz comes home from school excitedly:

“We got the day off because of the heat!”

His father looks puzzled:

“What? In the middle of winter?”

“Yes,” says Fritz. “The school is on fire.”

---

Teacher: “Seventy-six percent of the students in this class have no understanding of percentages.”

Student: “But teacher, there aren’t that many of us!”
